Dear Kylie,
Hey how are you? How are you liking your elementary education major? That is such a good place for you! So guess what? I have finally chosen a major. I’m going into public relations and I’m pretty excited about it. With this major you can do anything from event planning to representing President Bush, or soon President Obama. You can work for a public relations agency, do research, work for a big corporation and there’s so much international opportunity. That’s just a few of the many things you can do with the major. That is one of the great things about this major.
The main thing you have to remember about public relations is that you are trying to get free and positive publicity for whatever company you are representing. Another part of it is damage control when something goes wrong. A great example is the Tylenol scare in the 1980s, the bottles got tampered with and several people were poisoned, some even died. This could have been the end of Tylenol but, as we both know, it wasn’t. The reason was their public relations department came out with a news release and a step by step plan on how they would prevent that from happening ever again. They lost a lot of money and were set back a few years but it wasn’t the devastation it could have been.
Public relations go a lot further back than the ‘80s. In fact one of the earliest examples of public relations dates back to Plato when there would be speech writers for their leaders and wrote in order to persuade the public or the government. It has been used throughout history in many different ways. In the Revolutionary War the Boston Tea Party was basically one big public relations event, it received attention from England and caused action to be taken, which is all a public relations campaign can hope for.
I hope through these different examples you can better understand what I’m going into. I’m still not one hundred percent what I will do with this major but as you can see I have so many exciting options. Let me know what you think about it!
Love,
Annekah

I really liked your letter, especially the examples from history to illustrate your point. There are a few grammar issues, but those are easily taken care of. Great work!
I agree I really liked the examples you used, you were able to explain PR really well that way. And I didnt notcie as many grammar issues, but I am certainly no grammar expert haha. Good Work, see you in class.
Anneka, I liked how you used history from our other PR class in the letter, it was a good use of information. You explained PR well and I hope you can figure out what you want to do in PR some time soon!
